    Pre-cooled bulbs are tulip bulbs that have been stored at a constant cool temperature (around 5°C / 41°F) before shipping. This artificial “winter” ensures proper flower development, especially in warmer climates like California where natural chilling isn’t sufficient. Pre-cooling helps guarantee uniform growth, taller stems, and reliable blooms.

    • Timing: Plant bulbs in late fall to early winter after soil cools (or directly after receiving pre-cooled bulbs).

    • Soil: Use well-drained soil enriched with compost. Avoid waterlogged ground.

    • Depth: Plant 6–8 inches deep, with pointed end facing up.

    • Spacing: 4–6 inches apart for mass planting.
